Photoshop - Sky Captain film photo effect

In this Photoshop tutorial I will explain how duplicate the effect which you see, all while the film "Sky Captain And The World Of tomorrow." The whole film has a monotone feel with faux film grain and glamorous softening throughout. There is a gritty but still surprisingly plastic aesthetics that I have seen in every other movie without the film "Sin City", which came close.

Step 1

Start the find an image that you want this effect to and open or add to an existing Photoshop document.

Step 2

Duplicate the image layer, then choose the new duplicated layer and go to filter > blur > Gaussian blur, the formula I used is so 1.0 of the Gaussian blur per 100 pixels of the image, 500 x 500 5.0 Gaussian blur.

Step 3

Set the layer mode to the duplicated layer to "Overlay" for a harder more saturated image or "Soft light" to the contrary.

Step 4

Select the original image layer and open the hue / saturation (CTRL + U) to.
Rotate the saturation Panel to start,
To you it where it roughly looks correct.
It should rather low on the bar because the picture its color should get most of double layer.

Step 5

Fuzzy duplicate the layer and go to the filter > noise > add noise. Drag the bar right, sure that is monochromatic selected, and then click OK. Now put this layer the layer mode to soft light and set the opacity to about 10%.
