Digital photography tutorial: mega-pixel digital camera and camera cards

The foundation of megapixels Megapixels is the low pixel or a single square of the color. A pixel is a dot information in a digital photography. Today are digital photographs of millions of small points (mega = million). This means that a 10-megapixel image contains approximately 10 million pixels, whereas a 14 megapixel image 14 million pixels.

As a photo has a rectangular shape, the dimensions of one side equal to the other are not.

If we assume that we see photo on the side or in a "Landscape" position. * A 10-megapixel photo measures 3888 pixels wide 2592 pixels high * A 14.5 megapixel photo measures 4672 pixel wide 3104 pixels high, if you get the width and it multiplied by the amount you the number of pixels, which is the digital image: * 3888 x 2592 = 10,077,696 pixels = 10 megapixels * 4672 x 3104 = 14,501,888 pixels = 14.5 megapixel this is only the tip of the iceberg – there are many more information needed, define to mega pixel.

Is better?

Now, it's not so easy. The real notable difference is not one of the quality, but a file size: 14 megapixel cameras create larger digital files as their 10 megapixel. So take a camera with more megapixels clearer pictures right? Now - not just. Finally should if a camera to record 14 million pixels is and another is only 10, then the photo with 14 million pixels - right look better. This is not always true.

There are many points, which is a clear photograph - lighting and durability of the lens, the aperture, shutter speed, Flash, camera angle, and more.

While a digital photo, 14 million pixel contains physically bigger, apart as one is only 10 million, if displayed and printed in small sizes are hard to say it.

Means a larger file size:

1. You need to purchase higher capacity memory cards (4 GB or more) * it takes longer, transferred to a picture of the memory card to the computer
2. You need more disk space on your computer to save your photos
3. You need to organize a more powerful computer, and edit your pictures
4. You need to dramatically reduce the size of the photo by E-mail send
(5) It takes longer to upload original images in an online gallery

This leads us to ask an important question: what is the point of the cameras with more megapixels if image processing takes so much time and space?

Size does matter!

Byte

A byte is a digital information in computer science.

It is an ordered collection of bits where each bit is the value 1 or 0. A byte was used the number of bits (typically 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12 or 16) to represent a single character of text in a computer like the letter "A".

Megabytes

A unit of information equal to a million bytes.

Gigabyte

A unit of information equal to 1000 megabytes or a billion bytes. For example, my 4 GB camera holds up to two thousand high-definition photos show (on the current TV standards to 1920 pixels wide and 1028 pixels high). A terabyte thousand gigabytes.

This is the number of bytes!

I could take over a million photographs - a low quality - with a terabyte show.

Hopefully, this article highlights the cloudy information about digital cameras and megapixels.

Best,
Charles
