Create a glass ORB (quick method)

1.
Create a new Photoshop document of 4 "X 4" in size by selecting file > new. Select the radio button "Transparent" for "Content" to make the background transparent. Also make sure that the "mode" "RGB color" is. Then click OK.
2.
Select the elliptical marquee tool (M), and draw a circle as you press the SHIFT key. The circle should appear "walking ants" around its perimeter.
3.
Select a non-white foreground color. I choose red for this exercise.
4.
Fill with the foreground color by selecting Edit the select few > fill > foreground color.
5.
Select the move tool (V) (arrow Black Lace).
6.
Duplicate the background layer by grabbing it, and then drag it over the icon "Create A new layer" at the bottom of the layers list.
7.
Select the background layer and lock it by clicking the slide box locks to the top.
8.
Choose copy layer background. With the right mouse button and choose layer properties from the pop-up menu. Change the layer name to "ORB base".
9.
While the ORB base layer is selected, click the "Add A layer style" at the bottom of the layers list icon. Select from the popup list "Inner Glow."
10.
Layer style dialog box, that displays, select the following settings:
Blend mode: Normal.
Opacity: 75 %
Color: Choose a dark color close to black.
Size: approx. 100-150, to taste.

Then click OK.

Click CTRL + D to deselect the selection circle ("marching ants").

Create a new layer at the top by "Creating A new layer icon" at the bottom of the layers list.

Select the elliptical marquee tool (M), and draw an ellipse in towards the top of your circle sphere.
15.
Click colors in the tool box icon default background foreground, to shift the color back to black and white.
16.
Click the color switching arrows that white foreground color to make.
17.
Choose the gradient tool (G).
18.
Select from the properties toolbar up on your screen white to transparent gradient (second from left).
19.
With the top layer still selected, click and pull history from above create a white to transparent gradient below your ball.
20.
Select the move tool (V) (arrow Black Lace).
21.
Click CTRL + T to activate the free transform function.

By dragging on the corners of the transform square, forming your gradient on something like this:

Press ENTER to register the new shape. Click CTRL + D to deselect circle ("marching ants").

And you have your "Glass Orb."
BONUS digging-how an object within the glass ORB place?
1.
While still in Photoshop, open any image file you want. Suppose we the photo of u-Bahn trains use...

Make tool (V) (arrow Black Lace) selecting it you move that.
3.
Click the new photo and drag it to your glass ORB window. This will import the new image, by automatically create a new layer at the top. Let's say we, the new photo is simply too large and it must be changed to.

With new layer still selected, click CTRL + T to activate the free transform function.
5.
See the selection square around the image.
6.
On the top real estate bar type, a reasonable percentage value (say, "50") w (width). Click you icon "Chain", to ensure that the height (H) by the same percentage as well as down scale. Make sure when you, the square image finish ORB covers the glass completely.
7.
Press ENTER to finalize the scale. Click CTRL + D to deselect circle ("marching ants").
8.
Select the elliptical marquee tool (M), and draw a circle as you press the SHIFT key. The circle should appear "walking ants" around its perimeter.
9.
Center the selected circle of your square image.
10.
Press CTRL + SHIFT + I to invert the selection.
11.
Press Delete to delete the corners of the square.

Click CTRL + D to deselect circle ("marching ants").

Make tool (V) (arrow Black Lace) selecting it you move that.
14.
Center your round image ORB on your glass.
15.
Click the down arrow to the right field "Blending modes" at the top of the layers box (which "Normal" shows by default).
16.
Select "Overlay" and bingo! Your image is captured within the glass ORB.
Feel free to experiment with different blending modes and opacity settings modes.
Try opacity example difference blending mode, and 50%.
