Photoshop tutorial - color accents method 1

Color, accent lighting in Photoshop

A great technique is to use Photoshop to accentuate colour. Add focus to your images by black and white and then the true color, select a photo to elements to shine through. You can accent your child in a photograph by everything, but you the black and white or bring the bright colors of a flower. Bright colors work best. I use Adobe Photoshop CS3, to do this tutorial, but you should be able, the same instructions for all versions of Photoshop.

Open your photo in Photoshop and use the crop tool if needed.

Right in the layers Panel click on the background layer and choose Duplicate layer. If your "Layers" Panel is not visible call window in the menu bar and select levels. By default, this new level background copy will be called. Modify a layer name, if you double click on the layer in the layers panel name from.

Make sure that the new layer you created is selected in the layers panel. Layer appears in blue. In the menu bar, select image > adjustments > black and white.

A window will pop up, you can set the black and white layer will look like. In this example I left the default settings, but you may prefer messing around with preset options to make available or customize the color bar, your picture as you.

Now the fun begins. Make sure your black and white layer above is layer on the color and it is already selected. Select the Eraser tool in the Toolbox and choose an appropriate brush size for what you delete are. Set the opacity of the eraser. A higher percentage of opacity will show more of the true color allow. In this example I used 100% opacity.

Delete where you want to show the original color. Notice that since the black and white layer is selected, only the black-and-white allow image clears the color shine through.
